These ready-made frames are crafted from solid pine, then hand finished with fine-quality stains and softly antiqued to give the look of an expensive, custom-made frame. Each frame has a natural linen liner and matching inset. A "rabbet" is not a funny spelling of a bunny! In the framing business, that's what we call the cut-out area behind the molding that accommodates the work of art. These frames have a rabbet that is approximately 3/8" deep (about 10 mm), sufficient for a single- or double-matted work on paper, but not deep enough for stretched canvas. Antique Burlwood/Gold — Like an old leather club chair, this one wears, but never wears out. Use it for portraits and other formal themes, in a room with light colored paint or wallpaper. Cherry Wood — A frame that signals respect, probably the most conservative choice in this group. If you were hired to replace a beloved manager who had died prematurely, you would choose this frame for his portrait. It might also go well with a formal country landscape. Gold with Gold Foil — A gold frame goes well with almost anything. This frame is richer and deeper in color than the Light Gold. Choose this frame if you have a wall that is painted white or off-white. Light Gold — Choose this frame to brighten a dark room. It's an excellent choice for framing a landscape, or just about anything, when the background décor is a dark paneling. It goes well too with wallpaper, especially strong patterns in contrasting colors.
