One of the most revolutionary American artists of this century, Robert Rauschenberg shocked many through his experimentation in various media and his use of untraditional art materials. He has fused real life with art by using found items, household items, chairs, ladders, even junk and rags. His works have encompassed dance, collage, frottage, airbrush, and engineering and the latest technology. This DVD was filmed at Rauschenberg's Captiva Island Studio. It emphasis his 1/4 Mile Piece, a multipart work-in-progress, which currently comprises 189 paintings and sculptures, and spans approximately 1,000 feet. This work functions as Rauschenberg's visual autobiography and exemplifies the originality and genius of an artist always ahead of his time. 50 minutes |
