These videos take your students into the studio for an over-the-shoulder look at the various skills and techniques demonstrated by professional artists and craftspersons. All videos are approximately 30 minutes long. Fundamentals Of Drawing — A demonstration of still life drawing us-ing charcoal. Supported by historical and contemporary drawings and narrative on the elements and principles of drawing. Figure Drawing — Gesture poses and 2 long poses emphasize positive/negative space, rendering proportion, and mood. Demonstrations in charcoal wash, reduction and pastel. A fully clothed model is used. Portrait Drawing — Demonstration of frontal, profile and 3/4 views emphasize the ideas of design, mood, texture and form. Includes a historical introduction to portrait drawing. Handbuilt Pottery — Three potters demonstrate coil, hard slab, soft slab and press mold techniques using stoneware, raku and porcelain. Wheel Thrown Pottery — Start-to-finish demonstration of wheel throwing techniques, followed by trimming, handle attachment, bisquing, glazing and firing to finish a piece. Glazing And Firing — Basic information on the firing process and glaze chemistry. Electric, gas and barrel firing are discussed, glaze types are compared, and oxidation/reduction is defined. Basic Screen Printing — Screen printing process from start to finish with paper, celluloid, adhesive paper and resist stenciling methods, printed on paper and fabric. Photo Screen Printing — Demonstration of the photo emulsion process, using direct drawn keyline, rubylith and blockout screen. The process presents color separation, registration and exposure. Relief Painting — Demonstration of the rubber block (lino) relief print process in a 3-plate color print. Introduction to wood-cut, wood-engraving, and reduction relief methods as well.
